About This Visa
The Temporary Graduate subclass 485 visa is a work visa for international students who have completed 2 years of study in Australia. It is a great way to extend your stay in Australia to improve your chances of becoming eligible for a permanent or provisional skilled visa.
Duration of the 485 visa will depend on your circumstances.

Gradate Work stream visas are valid for 18 months from the date of grant of the application.

Duration of the Post Study Work stream depends on which qualification has been completed in Australia:

2 years: completion of Bachelor Degree, Bachelor with Honours, Masters by Coursework or Masters (Extended)

3 years: Masters by Research

4 years: Doctorate
International students who complete their studies at regional universities will be eligible for longer (1 or 2 years) 485 visas
Visa Update during COVID-19
Eligibility requirements for a post-study work visa (Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) will be relaxed if you're enrolled with an Australian education provider and have been impacted by COVID-19 and associated travel restrictions. Under these arrangements:

You will be able to count this towards the Australian Study Requirement if you're an existing or new student visa holder undertaking online study outside Australia because of COVID-19.

Eligible graduates affected by travel restrictions will also be able to apply for and be granted a Temporary Graduate (subclass 485) visa outside Australia.

Extra time will be given for you to provide English language results if you're unable to take a test in their home country because of COVID-19.Additional time will also be provided to undertake biometric collection and health checks if COVID-19 has disrupted access to services.

485 Visa Requirements
There are a number of criteria which are common to both the PSWV (Post Study Work) stream and the Graduate Work Stream:
Age:
The main applicant must be under 50 at the date of lodgement.
English:
IELTS (Academic or General Training): overall average of 6 and at least 5 in each band or equivalent. Evidence of threshold English must be provided at date of lodgement
Study in Australia:
You must meet the 2 year study requirement and have completed qualifications within six months of applying for the visa.
Health Insurance
Have adequate arrangements for health insurance when your 485 visa is granted. Whilst it is OK to have OSHC (Overseas Student Health Cover) at the time of application, you will need Working Visa cover for approval of your 485 visa and hold it for the entire visa duration.
